From NCUltra.org:

Mike Walsh of NC Roadrunners has issued the following call for volunteers  to serve at the upcoming 2008 Umstead 100.

NEEDED: Volunteers for Umstead 100 Ultramarathon. (http://www.umstead100.org/)

It’s that time again - Umstead 100 will be held Saturday April 5 into Sunday April 6.  This is not an NCRC-volunteer-points qualify event,
but something everyone should volunteer for and support because it is such a great event!  Volunteers are needed for many things including:
setup, tear down, registration, aid station staff, medical, parking, and PACING.

1.      General volunteering: If you can volunteer for any duty, please complete the volunteer form that can be found at
http://www.umstead100.org/volunteers.htm and send to Blake at his contact points listed on the form.

2.      Pacing: Pacing is a special volunteer duty, and again this year I will be in charge of coordinating the volunteer pacer pool. Volunteer pacers will be available to any runner on a first-come, first-serve basis.  U100 allows pacing of runners after darkness on Saturday night and into Sunday morning. For many runners, having a pacer for their final lap(s) means the difference between successfully completing their 50/100 mile goal and not finishing. The greatest need
for pacers is generally between 10pm on Saturday and 4am on Sunday.

Basically, as a pacer your key responsibilities are to provide company and support to your runner - they have a lot of miles on their legs
and need some help remembering to eat, drink and keep moving.  We will probably hold a pacer training run or two for practice and answering
questions.  So, if you are interested in pacing (and I really hope you can help out!), please:
